DESCRIPTION
Mizuna is a mustard green that produces masses of airy, frilled leaves with a gentle peppery note. It’s excellent in salads, sandwiches, stir-fries, soups, and quick pan cooking—adds flavour without overpowering.
One of its biggest strengths is bolting resistance and strong re-growth after cutting, so you can harvest repeatedly over many weeks. If you want a steady supply of fresh greens, mizuna is a top choice.
GROWING GUIDE
Direct sow or start in trays and transplant
Sowing season: April to September outdoors (earlier/later under cover)
Sow depth: 0.5–1 cm
For baby leaf: sow a bit denser, harvest young
For larger leaves: thin to ~10–20 cm spacing
Row spacing: 20–30 cm
Keep soil evenly moist for tender leaves and steady growth
Harvest baby leaf in about 21 days, mature leaves around 40 days
For repeat harvests, cut leaves above the growing point so plants re-sprout
