What kind of seeds we offer?

EU certified organic seeds. Seeds grown on soil that had no prohibited substances applied for three years prior to harvest. Prohibited substances include most synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Seed produced by a certified organic grower is not exposed to prohibited chemicals throughout its growth in the field, nor during harvesting and processing.

DEMETER biodynamic seeds.

Demeter is the quality mark for produce that has been grown biodynamically and the products that use both Demeter produce and approved processes. Demeter products are always certified to both organic and Demeter standards.
Demeter was founded in 1924 by Rudolf Steiner and is therefore the oldest organic farming association in Germany. The products of biodynamic agriculture are highly regarded by consumers and are produced under strict guidelines.

The Demeter trademark is the only global brand to recognise certified products and produce that is biodynamic. Our strict standards go above and beyond organic, providing you with premium quality products. Demeter products are always certified to both organic and Demeter standards.

The EU organic label sets a minimum standard for organically produced food. Demeter’s philosophy and farming methods, however, go far beyond this standard. This benefits the quality of the food as much as the environment. For example, a focus on soil quality and regeneration with required preservation of biodiversity. The consistent development of the standards and regular inspections results in the highest quality produce and products.

Untreated Seed is clean and has not been treated using any chemical, biological, or physical method. What is the difference in treated and untreated seeds? The difference between the two is that treated seeds have been coated with a type of fungicide, pesticide or chemical preservative. This is to prevent them from being eaten by pests, fungus or bacteria in the soil and also improve the length of the shelf life of seeds.

F1 hybrid seed is the term used for the first generation hybrid seed/plant that occurs following the successful cross-pollination of one genetically uniform plant variety with another specific genetically uniform variety. F1 varieties are more productive but need proper watering and fertilizing.

Heirloom seed describes seed's heritage, specifically a documented heritage of being passed down from generation to generation within a family or community. Heirloom varieties are open-pollinated. This means you can save seeds from heirloom plants, plant them, and expect them to grow into new plants.

IMPORTANT

Seed is a live product which depends on many important related grower skills such as proper planting time, seed depth, type of soil, watering, proper use of fertilizers, weed controls, fungicides, insecticides, disease free soil, and reasonable weather conditions during the growing period. Germination is affected by such factors as temperature, moisture content, light intensity and contamination of planting media. These factors are totally outside of our control and are the buyer's responsibility and risk.
