Lavendula angustifolia
The most commonly seen and reliable variety. Pperennial herb. Grows for 20-30 years and is extensively used for the production of Lavender Oil and perfumes. Foliage and flowers will produce fantastic scent. Magnets for bees, beneficial insects and butterflies. Pearl of any garden!Lavender tolerates various types of soils, but does best in dry, sandy, well-drained alkaline soil in full sun.
Before sowing, you need to chill the seeds in the refrigerator for a week this will break the seeds dormancy. Start seeds indoors or from 11 weeks before your last spring frost date until early summer. Plant them no deeper than 6 mm (1/4 inch). Seeds take about 20days to germinate. When large enough to handle, plant seedlings outside after danger of frost is gone.
Lavender quite a slow germinator and a slow grower. To encourage flowering, add organic fertilizer.
